For those who attended the annual Koloa Plantation Days celebration, there is no need to tell you that longtime resident Louie Jacintho did the honors at the formal opening of the program at the ho‘olaule‘a that followed Saturday’s Koloa Plantation Days parade.
And, it didn’t end there as “Uncle Louie,” as he is affectionately called, also made his way out to the CJM country Stables on Sunday where he did the honors at the Plantation Days Rodeo as well.
Jacintho’s familiar voice is always heard rendering either the national anthem or his more familiar “God Bless America” at events island-wide, but more notably at veteran functions and other community events.
Recently, Uncle Louie was caught talking about the baseball team he used to play on, and he offered up a photo of his baseball skills – a team photo from the 1945 Koloa Baseball Team.
Uncle Louie is the third from the right of standing players.
Other players in the photo include (standing, left to right) Cornell Iha, Torao Isoda, Frederick Bukoski (was he part of the Bukoski reunion in the parade?), Frank Cataluna, Jacintho, Robert Patricio, and Mike Hiramoto.
Sitting left to right are Johnny Goda, Reg Fernandez (mascot), Pat Racelo (coach), John Cataluna, Conrad Racelo, and Antone Bonilla.
