Patricia “Pat” Fleck has joined the county Office of Economic Development as an economic-development specialist, announced Beth Tokioka, OED director.
Fleck started last week. As an economic-development specialist, she is responsible for administering, coordinating and monitoring the activities and programs of the Kaua‘i Workforce Development System and the Kaua‘i Workforce Investment Board.
She has over 12 years of management experience, with emphasis in program development, training, vocational assessment, counseling, job development and disability accommodations.
Fleck holds a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in vocational rehabilitation, with training in evaluation, job placement, counseling and work adjustment. She has worked with diverse populations in private and nonprofit sectors, including education, healthcare, workers’ compensation and high technology. Fleck worked as a job developer with WorkWise! Kaua‘i’s One-Stop Job Center, and subsequently assisted Leadership Kaua‘i with curriculum development and marketing.
“We are so fortunate to find someone with Pat’s experience and connections in the business community,” said Tokioka. “She is going to be a tremendous asset to our program.” While residing in the San Francisco Bay Area for 17 years, Fleck worked as a professional development instructor in Silicon Valley. She was also assistant director of student workshops and advising at Stanford University’s MBA Career Management Center and director of vocational services at Career Vocational Assessment and Davies Medical Center.
Fleck has been an island resident since 2001, and has made a commitment to the Kaua‘i community.
She has been active in the Kamalani community build, as well as an advocate for persons with disabilities.
“I’m excited to be a part of the Office of Economic Development and to work collaboratively with the Kaua‘i Workforce Investment Board,” Fleck said. “We face many challenges, but I’m looking forward to working with the board to implement strategic plans that will expand and diversify Kaua‘i’s workforce.”
