A hats off to citizens who come to help in times of need – “Coach” Robert Cremer was mowing the roadside by St. Catherine’s on Friday morning when he got wind of the police situation taking place just a ways down Kawaihau Road. “Coach” Cremer took the initiative to use his mower as a barricade to the road to help block traffic, and besides just lending his mower, also talked with motorists to explain the ongoing situation. Likewise, at Kapa‘a Elementary School, Garden Island Security guards Chris Miyashiro and Eddie Subish were ready to do whatever it took to keep the students separated from the ongoing situation across the road. Kaua‘i schools superintendant Daniel Hamada was working closely with Kapa‘a El principal Dora Hong, as was KPD’s Dan Miyamoto, and when officer Paul Kanoho came over to give the all clear, he thrilled Miyashiro and Subish by expressing his appreciation for their help in the matter. Ron Wiley did a great job keeping everybody informed via FM93.5 (e-mail works great, Ron!). Of course, Ron was on hand for some of that Special Olympics fun, too, Thursday night at Kukui Grove.
So, after that morning of excitement, it was off to Sri’s in the Rice Shopping Center for some of that roast turkey.
Hats off, too, to Don and Barbi Taylor, their ‘ohana, the Special Olympic volunteers, and the Time Warner Oceanic volunteers for such a great ice cream (the cake was ono!) social! Congratulations, too, to Alyssa Stanwood for getting the first hundred per cent award at the Kukui Grove store – from the looks of things, Kaua‘i High School should have a great senior class! ‘Nuff said – it’s off to the bon dance down the hill.
Drive carefully.
