Kee Chong Fong
Kee Chong Fong of Wailua Houselots, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on July 12, 2004, at the age of 87.
Born in Kapa‘a on Nov. 13, 1917, he was a collections manager with the County of Kaua‘i Department of Water.
Preceded in death by son, Steven; brothers, Henry Kee Luke Fong and Harry Kee Sau Fong, he is survived by his wife, Harue Fujinaka Fong; son, Patrick Fong of Willow Park, Texas; daughter, Esther (James) Helgesen of Janesville, Wisc.; six grandchildren; brother, Kee Fook Fong of Waipahu, O‘ahu; two sisters, Gwendolyn Hughes of Nashville, Tenn., and Cecelia Fong of Milford, Del.; daughter-in-law, Yvonne Fong of Waipahu, O‘ahu; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; service to begin at 4 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and that flowers be omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
James ‘Kimo’ Paishon
James “Kimo” Kainoakupuna Paishon was surrounded by family when he died June 30, 2004, in Vancouver, Wash. Kimo had been living in Washington since October 2003. He was born on Sept. 17, 1938 in Kaka‘ako, Honolulu, O‘ahu to Emma (Halemanu) and Caesar Paishon Jr.
Kimo was the owner of Seafoods of the Pacific, in Port Allen, Kaua‘i, and moved to Maui in 1988 when he joined the Embassy Suites Hotel, in Ka‘anapali. He was the bell/valet manager and chairman of the employee’s council for many wonderful years. After leaving Embassy Suites, Kimo was the plant manager and supervisor of Maui Seafoods, Inc. in Wailuku.
Kimo is survived by his wife Judy and his children, Taunja (Stanley) Paishon, Kristin Jones, James (B.J.) Paishon Jr., Leilani (Sonny) Seneca, Kimberly (Bryan) Okino, Rena Lefevre, Lehua (Hiram) Sisifo, and John (Cici) Schultz, 19 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Doreen Lindsey and Elouise Yarrow, as well as many beautiful nieces and nephews and two hanai sons, Josh (Roxanne) Haglan and Todd Schwartz.
Kimo was a member of the Royal Order of Kamehameha on Kaua‘i, and the Nanaikapono Hawaiian Civic Club in Nanakuli, O‘ahu.
The family asks that friends join them in celebration of his life at the Ma‘alaea Boat and Fishing Club, Ma‘alaea Harbor, Maui, on July 30 at 3 p.m.
Pedro Mariano Acob
Pedro Mariano Acob of Kilauea, died July 16, 2004, at his home at the age of 94.
Born Feb. 7, 1910, in the Philippines, he was a laborer at the sugar plantation.
He is survived by his wife: Florentina Acob of Kilauea; three daughters: Catherine (Rodney) Acob of Kapa‘a, Michelle (Joshua) Acob-Apana of Kilauea and Jacqueline Acob of Kilauea; two sons: Edward Acob of Kilauea and John Pierre Acob of Kilauea; one granddaughter: Kamoana “Momo” Apana of Kilauea and one grandson: Kawaiolu Apana of Kilauea; brothers: Hipolito Acob, Nicomedes Acob and Roman Acob, all of the Philippines.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at St. Sylvester’s Church in Kilauea where mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Father Jim. Burial to follow at Kilauea Japanese Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary.
Frank Medeiros Ventura
Frank Medeiros Ventura of Wailua and Kailua, O‘ahu, died in Honolulu on July 16, 2004, at the age of 97.
Born in Koloa on June 10, 1907, Ventura worked for 51 years at McBryde Sugar Company. During this time he also owned and operated Ventura Poultry Farm in Kalaheo with his brother, William Ventura.
He is survived by two sons: Melvin (Pauline) Ventura and James (Theresa) Ventura; one sister, Sophie (Harold) Robella; 13 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, July 26, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., followed by mass at 11 a.m., con-celebrated by Fr. Patrick Coyle and Fr. Tom Gross. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Church Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested. Donations in memory of Ventura may be made to Catholic Charities, 250 Vineyard Street, Honolulu, HI 96813. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
