Land adjacent to the existing Poipu Shopping Village belonging to the Knudsen family trust which apparently has been leased to the O‘ahu-based Honu Group, will not be used for expansion of Poipu Shopping Village.
Valerie Roland, general manager of Poipu Shopping Village, said Honu’s development of a shopping center next to Poipu Shopping Village, with a working name of Poipu Town Center, is totally separate from Poipu Shopping Village.
“It’s a whole different shopping center. It’s a whole separate entity,” she said. “It’s not the Poipu Shopping Village.”
While the land being leased by the Honu Group is the acreage where Village Properties, owner of Poipu Shopping Village, planned an expansion of that center, the deal struck has nothing to do with the existing Poipu Shopping Village, Roland said.
The deal, though, does effectively kill any potential expansion that Village Properties principals may have been mulling.
The land in question is between the existing Poipu Shopping Village and the Kiahuna tennis center, along Po‘ipu Road.
A story on the front page of yesterday’s paper, under the headline “Poipu Shopping Village sold,” indicated that the land in question was the second phase of the Poipu Shopping Village, and that the new lessee would be expanding the existing Poipu Shopping Village.
