KAPA‘A — When you think of Go Go Girls, basketball is probably not the first thing that comes to your mind, but the Go Go Girls squad from Kapa‘a definitely brought the two together on Thursday night at Kapa‘a Gym, as they side-stepped the Fire Raiders, 32-19 in girls 19-and-under action.
Kaela Caspillo got things started for the Go Go Girls with the opening bucket of the contest, as both teams opened up in a 2-3 zone defense.
Poerava Gantt got into the scorebooks for Go Go with a nice pass from Brittney Carvahlo for a 4-0 lead.
Reina Fujimoto put the Fire Raiders on the board with 2 FT’s.
Buckets from April Johnson gave the eastside team an 8-2 first quarter lead.
Jamilee Jimenez and Meiling Keopuhiwa helped cut the Go Go lead in half with a basket a piece at the four-minute mark in the second period.
Samdi Makepa connected from long-distance with a 3-point bomb to give the Go Go Girls a commanding, 13-6 lead.
BriAnne States and another Makepa score put Go Go up 17-7 at the half.
Tiffani Ikeda’s free-throw supplied the last minute scoring for the Fire Raiders.
The Go Go Girls came out with the same fury in the second half, controlling the rest of the game with help from Carvalho, Caspillo, and Ihi Yama, who led the Go Go Girls with seven points. Keopuhiwa paced Kaua‘i with six points.
In the early game, featuring the 19-and-under boys, the Kapa‘a Warriors claimed the win over the Eastside Ballers, 37-25.
Amini Tauofu led Kapa‘a with 11 points.
The Ballers were led by Austin Rosa with nine and Kaina Kaauwai with eight.
Ulu Kelekoma and the Lihu‘e Raiders pushed past the Westside Hornets, 23-19 at Kalaheo Gym on Thursday.
Kelekoma scored nine points for Lihu‘e and the Hornets were led by Ashley Vea, who also put up nine points in the girls 19-and-under game. The closest game of the night went down to wire with Kalaheo getting the 47- 46 win over the Westside Klowns.
Josh Bradbury paced Kalaheo with 24 points. Brendan Mc- Daniels came up with 21 big points for Westside in boys 19- and-under action.
