A 29-year-old Lihu‘e man apparently lost control of his motorcycle on a road at the Lihu‘e Airport Thursday afternoon and died from critical injuries hours later, county officials said Friday.
At about 3:25 p.m., Thursday, Andy Gambeng, 29, was traveling in a southeasterly direction on Ho‘olimalima Place at the Lihu‘e Airport when the motorcycle accident happened.
Gambeng sustained critical injuries and was transported to Wilcox Hospital for treatment.
He was pronounced dead shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday.
Kaua‘i Police Department officials do not believe alcohol played a role in the crash, although they believe speed was a factor.
An investigation is continuing into the incident.
Gambeng’s death marked Kaua‘i’s seventh traffic fatality of the year.
