Stoessel viewpoint
Horace Stoessel (6/19) raises important questions about our county government. With a politically elected mayor we have seen many kinds of abuses of power, mismanagement and illegal activities. And over the years action on critical issues were replaced by cosmetic ones.
When the head of government is elected, friends and cronies are appointed to run the county. Neither the mayor nor these appointees are required to have professional training and experience in government management.
And so hundreds of thousands of dollars are spent hiring consultants and studies, often resulting in no further action.
With a manager form of government the elected County Council hires a manager who has the proper training credentials to run the county government. This manager is directly responsible to the Council and may be fired for incompetence or malfeasance. This produces the best form of government. I speak from 15 years of experience in working with such a system.

Secret Beach not secret
Kauapea Beach in Kilauea aka “Secret Beach” is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
The fresh spring water flowing over the cliffs, swimming with the dolphins, the view, the snorkeling, beach combing and a general euphoric feeling of freedom on this unofficial clothing optional beach.
Secret Beach is the essence of freedom and part of it derives from the fact that it is a good hike down and an aerobic hike on the way up, not everyone can endure it.
If Secret beach is made accessible with a road to the gawkers and couch potatoes it will lose its special cosmic spirit.
Mayor Bryan Baptiste wants an access road to this beach? Why? part of the beauty of Kauapea beach is that it is not accessible but to those willing to work to be there.
Mayor Baptiste may take a lesson and forget the access road and try hiking to the beautiful Cosmic Secret Beach temple and go skinning dipping with the dolphins. Maybe then the mayor will realize no access is the best access, after all Secret beach is no Secret.
