It was a close one, but Kalaheo managed to stay on top and take home first-place honors, 69-64 over visiting Ikaika Basketball in the 7th Annual Kaua‘i Invitational Tournament for boys 17-and-under at Kalaheo Gym yesterday.
Jeremy Manuel led Kalaheo with 21 points, Jordon Dizon and Tab Matsumoto each chipped in with 12 and 11 points each. Ikaika was led by R. Cummings with 21 and J. Letoto with 18.
Tournament MVP’s were Chris Newcomb (Waimea), Aaron Hesapene (West Kaua‘i), Matt Gochenover (Ikaika), Jordon Dizon (Kalaheo), and Tab Matsumoto (Kalaheo).
In the third place game, West Kaua‘i prevailed with a 47-43 win over Waimea. Aaron Hesapene and Akeem Allen each scored 12 for West Kaua‘i. Vincent Vea notched 11 points for the winners. Chris Newcomb and Kyle Pigao netted 12 and 10 points respectively for Waimea.
In preliminary games on Friday, Ikaika Basketball beat West Kaua‘i, 59-56. Matthew Gochenover put up 13 for Ikaika and Casey Kahoelaulii scored 15 for West Kaua‘i.
Waimea won the second game against West Kaua‘i, 41-37. Brendan McDaniels led Waimea with 14 and Aaron Hesapene poured in 18.
Jordon Dizon exploded for 29 points to give Kalaheo the win in the third game against Ikaika, 56-48. J. Letoto scored 13 for Ikaika.
