In November of last year I was vacationing on Kaua‘i, and was involved in the diving accident you wrote about who swam ashore at Anahola. ( I actually swam ashore just north of Kealia.)
Two weeks ago I returned to Kaua‘i, and spent some of my vacation time locating and thanking some of the people who helped me on that day.
They include Raymond Villatora, who works for Kauai Nursery and his wife Berna. My husband and I had a lovely dinner with the Villatoras and their daughter. Another example was the owner of Dive Kauai, Mark. After I had Berna contact the wrong dive company, and Mark helped her find the right one, he also drove to the boat landing to let me know he was glad I was safe. Other perfect strangers approached me that day to express their pleasure that I was safe. It amazed me.
The next morning I went diving with my usual dive company, Bubbles Below, which is owned by Linda Marsh. I didn’t want the accident to ruin my love of diving. Linda and her captain Peter, following their usual careful and safe diving plan guided me through two wonderful dives, and picked me up every time when I was done.
