HONOLULU — Pacific Islanders in Communications (PIC) has announced the public broadcast premiere of “Sumo East and West,” a film that features several Polynesians in the ancient Japanese sport of sumo wrestling, will air on Tuesday, June 8 at 9 p.m. on PBS Hawaii.
In recent years an increasing number of foreigners have risen to the top of the ancient Japanese art.
Polynesian wrestlers featured in the documentary include Chad Rowan (Akebono) of Waimanalo, Jesse Kuhaulua (Takamiyama or Azumazeki Oyakata) of Maui, Salevaa Atisanoe (Konishiki) of Nanakuli.
Kawaihau Little League meeting
The Kawaihau Community Little League would like to invite its members to a general membership/parent meeting on May 27 at 7 p.m. at the new town park pavilion in Kapa‘a.
The agenda will feature a brief question and answer session and the vote to accept the league constitution.

DeFabian, Hornets cool Sparks
It was east meets west Friday night in KYBA GU12 action, with the Westside Hornets, led by Tanisha DeFabian’s six points over the Lihu‘e Sparks, 19-15.
The Sparks were led by Kayla Perez, Sierra Mayer, and Katrina Drier, who all scored four points each.
In the second contest, featuring GU14, Hanalei Gomes paced Wailua I to a 34-17 win over the Kaumakani Supersonics, who were led by Sera Pascual and Joanna Andres with four points each.
Wailua I also got balanced scoring from Jondi Dias and Mai‘lika Napolean, who both scored eight points.
