Gee Unit led by Colipano and Valpoon
It was the boys turn on Kalaheo Gym floor Tuesday night for the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association’s (KYBA) 12 and under division.
The Westside Hornets stung the Lihu‘e Maniacs, 26-24 in the first game, while the second game posted a wider scoring margin with Gee Unit coasting by the Kanu Hustlers, 37-20.
The Hornets were paced by Bransen Agu and Cristobal Brenden, who both found the hoop for seven points a piece. Scot Sasan accounted for almost half of his teams scoring with 11 points.
Meanwhile, Gee Unit was led by Cody Valpoon with 14 points and Kainoa Colipano pitched in with 13 points.
Lopez K’s 13 in Yankees loss
The Yankee’s Kysen Lopez struck out 13 Dodgers in six innings, but it wasn’t enough as the Dodgers blanked the Yankees, 3-0 in Kawaihau Little League action, May 8. The Dodger’s defense and strong pitching from Palani Mawae made the difference. Mawae struck out eight in four innings.
The second game was just as close as the first one as the Marlins swam past the Phillies, 5-4 in extra innings.
Reji Butac, Aaron Belmonte, and Roger Fu led the Marlins offensive attack each with a double.
UH baseball team hosts Fresno St.
After taking two of three from number three Rice last week, the University of Hawai‘i Rainbow baseball team will try to continue its hot streak against the Fresno State Bulldogs tonight, tomorrow, and Sunday afternoon.
Night games start at 6:35 p.m. The Sunday start time is at 1:05 p.m.
The final home series of the year should be a good one. The ‘Bows will look for some revenge against a Bulldog squad that took two of three from UH earlier this season in Fresno.
Seven seniors will be playing their last games at Murakami Stadium this weekend.
