Kirby Guyer of Hale Ho`o Maha is the Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce’s “Operation Aloha” winner for the month of February. Guyer was nominated by Angela Reitz of San Francisco.
Operation Aloha winners are recognized for showing Kaua‘i’s aloha spirit. They do not have to be Chamber members and can be any business or individual.

City Bank announced the addition of Denise Tripoli as the new Lihue location Branch Manager. Denise worked at Pacific Cafe for over 10 years, most recently as Director of Operations. During that time she had extensive contact with many people and businesses in the Kauai community, and was responsible for creating the very popular discounted dining experience known as “Kama’aina Give Back To The Community” program. Denise is very supportive of the small business community.
She is on the Board of Directors of The Kauai International Children’s Film & Television Festival. Denise is spearheading the “Aloha to Africa” campaign in an attempt to bring children from Africa over to Hawaii for the summer.
Patti Smith has joined Koloa-Poipu office as a Realtor-Associate with RE/MAX Kaua‘i. She has a broad background in residential and commercial development, sales, project and property management as well as leasing.
Nurse of the Year
Juanita “Nita” Bermudez, a registered nurse at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, has been named the Hawaii Nurses’ Association Staff Nurse of the Year.
Bermudez was presented with a plaque by Aggie Cadiz, a registered nurse and chair of the HNA Awards committee, during a reception at the hospital.
“We are able to touch the lives of countless people, and they have touched my life in a very personal way as well,” Bermudez said.
While we all do our very best to provide the finest in medical care for our patients, I believe that we, as nurses, are the ones that truly benefit from our bedside experiences.”
Bermudez was nominated by Apryle Pascual, registered nurse, who has been a co-worker on the third-tower, acute-care unit.
Bermudez has been with Wilcox Memorial Hospital since 1970.
