All the running, jumping, and throwing came to a screeching halt as the KIF Track and Field Championships ended on April 23 at Vidinha Stadium. Kapa‘a High School and Kaua‘i High School are deadlocked at 94 points a piece for the girls title pending further results. Waimea High School came in third with 70 points and Kula High and Intermediate, along with Island School rounded out the bottom two with 8 and 2 points respectively. On the boys side, there was a definite winner but it was close as Waimea High School came away with 96.5 points, followed by Kapa’a High School with 83.5 points. Kaua‘i High School finished third with 69 points and Island School followed with 19 points.
On the individual side for the boys, it was a close one in the long jump competition with Waimea’s John Karrati out jumping Kaua’i’s Jonathan Smith 19-04.25 to 19-04.00. The triple jump competition wasn’t as close, with Waimea’s Max Hadwin winning the event by a pretty good margin over Kapa’a’s Ryan Cram. In shot put action, Waimea’s Jordon Dizon came away with the win over Kapa’a’s Amini Taufoou.
