Learn to swim with Mokihana Aquatics
Learn life saving skills, keep cool, enjoy a very low impact, full-body workout, meet and make new friends, but above all, just keep swimming and having fun. Classes for Mokihana Aquatics begin Monday, May 10 and include: Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Parent/Keiki (parent and keiki infant to 35 months old), and Tiny Tots (ages 3-4 years old). Porter named to Australian Olympic Team
University of Hawai’i softball player Stacey Porter was named today to the 2004 Australian Olympic Team. Porter, who took the 2004 season off at UH, is seeing action at third base for the national team. She plans to return to Manoa in the Spring of 2005 to finish her senior year of eligibility. Porter will join another former Rainbow Wahine, left-handed pitcher Brooke Wilkins, who is also on the 15-player squad. The 2004 Summer Olympic Games are in Athens, Greece, in August.
Rainbow Wahine Sign Kamehameha Star For 2005
HONOLULU — University of Hawai‘i softball head coach Bob Coolen announced Wenesday tht Kate Robinson signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the Rainbow Wahine in the spring of 2005.
Robinson, who graduates from Kamehameha Schools this spring, is a 5-8 utility player for the Warriors.
As a sophomore, she batted .500 on the state championship team. As a junior, she hit .409 and compiled a 10-2 record (0.53 ERA) in the circle. This past spring, she batted .341 at the plate.
She is a three-time all-ILH selection and earned first team all-state her sophomore and senior seasons, while garnering second team all-state as a junior.
The versatile athlete was used at both corners and in the circle by Warrior head coach Ty Sing Chow during her career.
Robinson is the sixth and final player that Coolen plans to sign for 2005. His staff signed five players in the fall — Valana Manuma (formerly Aloy) of Kapolei High, Kaulana Gould of Kamehameha Schools, Louise Harriden of Merici (HS) College (AUS), Janelle Rosa of San Jose C.C., Kristy Yoshizawa of Sierra College. Yoshizawa enters the program as a junior while Rosa is a sophomore. The other four athletes enter the fall as freshmen.
Villaroman, Kuebler named Bonham Winners
University of Hawai’i women’s volleyball player Melissa Villaroman and men’s basketball player Michael Kuebler were named the 2004 Jack Bonham Award winners in recognition for their outstanding performances on and off the court. The Jack Bonham award is named for the late assistant athletic director who was killed in 1974 in a plane crash in America Samoa. Bonham was returning to the islands from New Zealand on a recruiting trip.
