WAIMEA — Different setting, different day, and a whole different game. Although the Waimea High School Menehune girls’ basketball team came up short last night 41-35, they surely looked like a brand new team compared to last weeks debacle against the Red Raiders. However, in the end after the dust settled, it was Kaua’i’s Ulu Kelekoma that made the difference with two huge lay-ups after she pick-pocketed a Menehune and from another steal, this time thanks to Holly Iloreta in the closing minutes off the game to seal the victory for the girls in red.
After starting the game with an effective full-court press and a pesky half-court zone, the Menehune kept the game close throughout by shutting down the Raiders’ offensive weapons and controlling the boards.
