Former Kaua‘i High School pitcher Tyler Yates gave up a long home run Saturday to the Cubs’ Sammy Sosa in Chicago’s 3-1 win over the New York Mets at Wrigley Field. Yates (1-2), who struck out Sosa in the fifth inning, gave up three runs in five innings, striking out three. But the Mets failed to score a run against the Cubs’s ace Kerry Wood (3-1). The Mets lost again, 4-1 yesterday, with the Cubs completing the three-game sweep. New York scored two runs in the entire series.
