LIHU‘E — The results of the recent Rotary Track Meet are now in courtesy of Rotarian Liz Hahn.
Played alongside a KIF baseball game that was taking place in Kapa‘a, tracksters did their field and running events at Vidinha Stadium with Kapa‘a High School’s Joe Locey bringing his 10-second 100-yard dash to the hometown crowd.
Locey, who turned heads on Maui and at the Punahou meet with his sprinting, continued to burn the track, completing the 100-yard dash in 10.94 on a gravel surface compared with the rubberized track on Maui and O‘ahu.
And, as in previous meets, Waimea’s Jordon Dizon was on his heels in the sprints as Dizon tripped the clock at 11.35 in the 100- and Eric Oroc of Waimea was .44 off the pace in Locey’s 200-yard race, Locey stopping the watch at 23.46.
Kapa‘a speedster Elizabeth Kain led the girls sprints event, the Warrior sprinter taking both the 100- and 200-yard dash events with times of 13.25 and 27.43 respectively.
Kaua‘i’s Shauna Tachibana was second in both events stopping the clock at 13.81 for the 100-yard, and 28.19 for the 200 yard event.
In the distance race, cross country racer Rachel Martin of Waimea finished second in both the 1500 meter, and 3000 meter events, Martin being bested by Wishard Smith of Kaua‘i in the 1500, and Kula distance runner Alexandra Pond in the 3000 meter event.
In the boys’ distance runs, Island School’s Mario Rosa took the 1500 meter run with a 2:11.44 and the 3000 meter event with a 4:40.38.
Ross Brandeburg of Kaua‘i followed in the 1500 meter event with Waimea’s Nathan Martin dogging Rosa in the 3000 meter event.
Jackie Huttger of Kapa‘a continued to shine in the field events, tying fellow Warrior Jennifer Lindsey in the High Jump at 4 feet 11 inches, and getting tied by Waimea’s Tori Kagawa in the Long Jump with both leapers nailing 14 feet 11 inches.
Huttger went on to control the Triple Jump with a 31 feet, 9 inch performance over Waimea’s Robyn Arrington who finished a foot short.
In the meantime, Dizon continued to impress spectators in the field events as he claimed the Shot Put with a 44’8″ placement, almost four feet longer than fellow Menehune Max Hadwin who finished at 40’5″.
In the discus, Dizon was almost 20 feet better than runner up Hadwin, Dizon pitching the discus for 145’11” over Hadwin’s 123’9.”
