KALAPAKI BEACH —Whipping rain didn’t deter paddlers in Kaua‘i Hoe Wa‘a’s 7th race of the season which took place on Sunday from the Kapa‘a boat ramp to Kalapaki Bay for the long course and Wailua Beach to Kalapaki for the short course. The wind, which came out of the northeast at about 10 to 20 knots provided a bit of a push to the finish line. A mother whale and her calf crossing in front of several paddlers also offered some added motivation, not to mention the buffet lunch sponsored by Duke’s Canoe
Club Barefoot Bar and Restaurant.
