Niumalu men fast at PK canoe race
Niumalu took top honors at the 35th Annual Prince Kuhio Long Distance Canoe Race that was held Saturday, Mar. 20 at the Po‘ipu Beach Park.
Niumalu finished at 1:13:08 for the fastest boat with Pu‘uwai Master Men topping their division with a 1:17:13 finish.
Kaiola women controlled their division competition with a 1:23:40 finish, almost three minutes ahead of second place Hanalei.
Namolokama took the Senior Men Masters with a 1:17:53 finish, just a little over a minute faster than second place Kailoa.
Niumalu bulled for a top finish in the Mixed Open category with a 1:23:02 finish, almost five minutes better than second place Koloa.

Five Mokihana swimmers win double gold
Five Mokihana Aquatics swimmers returned home with double gold medals from the 17th Annual Charles “Sparky” Kawamoto swim meet that was held recently at the Hilo High School Pool on the Big Island.
Keyah Agoot captured first place honors in the 11-12 100 Free and 11-12 50 Free with Chelsea Chock taking top positions in the girls 9-10 50 Fly and 9-10 50 Free events.
Matthew Holzman earned his top slots in the boys 9-10 50 Back and 9-10 50 Fly events followed by Kaitlyn Jarry bringing home double wins in the girls 9-10 50 Breast and 9-10 50 Back events.
Meaghan Simms, freshman swimmer who swam for the Kaua‘i High School swim team this year, took double wins in the girls 13-14 50 Back, and 13-14 100 Breast events.
Coach Orlando Anaya noted that most of the 23 swimmers who made the trip to the Big Island returned with improvements in their event times. This held true for those who also graced their personal achievements with gold medals.
One of the biggest improvements came for Kayla Rask who trimmed 28.04 off her time for the 8-Under 50 Back, and continued by shaving 23.25 off her 50 Free time.

Lynch-Yokomoto win Scotch 4-Ball Championship
John Lynch of Ko‘olau Golf Club and Beau Yokomoto of Pearl Country Club parred the first extra hole to win the play-off on the final round of play at the 2004 Aloha Section PGA Big Island Candies Scotch 4-Ball Championship at the Hapuna Golf Course.
Lynch and Yokomoto shot a 67 on Monday in an alternate shot format to go with a best ball 67 Sunday for a total of 10-under par 134.
Brian Sasada and Kirk Nelson of Makena Resort were in the lead after the first round by two strokes with a total 10-under par 62, but lost in the playoff in the final round (72-134) to come in second.
Defending champions Kevin Hayashi and Lance Taketa came in third with a 9-under par 64-71-135.
