Kazuaki Akutagawa
Kazuaki “Smiley” Akutagawa of Lawa‘i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on March 2, 2004, at the age of 80.
Born in Hilo on Jan. 1, 1924, he was a delivery man with the Yoneji Store.
He is survived by his caregivers, Joseph and Ethel Farias of Lawa‘i. Also surviving are numerous nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 13, at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery at 10 a.m. Inurnment to follow.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Dorothy Morales Martinez
Dorothy Morales Martinez of Kilauea, died at her home on March 7, 2004, at the age of 82.
A homemaker, she was born Oct. 14, 1921, in Lihu‘e.
She is survived by two sons, Vicent (Nathalie) Hilongo and Miles Martinez; two daughters, Faith (Jackie) Nakazawa and Regina (David) Hoverson; five sisters: Laura (Clint) Clinton, Sally Petvellie, Dina Camacho, Penny (Ray) Carr, and Tivia Torres; 15 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and one great grandchild; two brothers, Benjamin Torres and Sylvester (Connie) Torres; brothers-in-law, George (Joyce) Martinez and Clifford Jim; and sister-in-law Sophie Martinez; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 13, at Borthwick/Kauai Mortuary Chapel in Koloa where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow in Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Samuel Liholiho Kali
Samuel Liholiho Kali of Arleta, Calif., died March 5, 2004, at the age of 77.
Born Nov. 10, 1926, he was a World War II veteran and retired from General Motors Corp. in 1994 after 36 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Kaleimomi Kali; five daughters, Elsie K. (Cary) Marshall of Oregon, Laverne K. (Rex) Carroll of California, Pati P. (Kai) Kaluna of Hawai‘i, Heidi K. Allen of Nevada and Idelle K. (Lawrence) Kim of California; 20 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; three brothers, Henry (Liz) Kali, Anthony (Sue) Kali, Peter (Alberta) Kali; six sisters, Olga Holi, Christina Kali, Hyacinth Miller, Gladiola (Melvin) Tawata, Carol Edwards, and Emma Decosta; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be on Tuesday, March 16, at Kauai Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. with service to begin at 11 a.m. and burial to follow.
