Amber Thronas notched a pair of first half goals enroute to Kaua‘i High School girls soccer shutting out Waiakea, 3-0 for the consolation championship in the 2004 Ohana Hotels & Resorts State Soccer Championships at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park Saturday.
Rachael Taira, Madison Perry, and Chelsea Pabo all fired second half goals for the win.
In the consolation semi-finals that was played on Thursday, Feb. 12, Holly Illoreta sparked the Red Raiders with a pair of goals with Perry adding the third goal in their 3-0 shutout over King Kekaulike.
All of this started after Kaua‘i was blanked 2-0 in the Wednesday opener against Aiea who scored two second-half goals against Kaua‘i, the first from Jodi Toyama off a corner kick play, and the second from Ambree Ako who beat the goalie on a breakaway.
Kailua’s Courtney Kessell threw a no-hitter against Waimea in their opening bid for the HHSAA/Data House State Softball Championships.
Shayenne Hussey added to that by banging a 2-run homer off Menehune starting pitcher Lynette Perreira for the 2-0 loss that pit Waimea against Baldwin on Thursday.
Perreira suffered her second straight loss, the Bears capitalizing on 10 hits led by a double from Angela Larose. June-Ann Lusk, Cheyna Tallant, and Kai Sarmiento each hit Perreira for two hits apiece in the win.
Waimea catcher Kodi Oyama led the Menehune effort with two of the three hits issued by Baldwin hurler Megan Tokeshi.
The Kaua‘i High School boys soccer team makes their bid for the HHSAA title this coming week with the state brackets expected late Sunday.
