LIHU’E— Who let the dogs out?
Volcano Dogs, a new Hot Dog Cafe located in front of The Home Depot Store in Lihu’e, opened its doors recently.
The business is family owned and operated by Wailua residents Mike and Dara Fugett.
“I really saw a need for a good hot dog restaurant in Lihu’e,” said Mike Fugett. “We thought that Home Depot would be a great location for it.”
Volcano Dogs offers “delicious and world famous Hebrew National” hot dogs and Jumbo Polish Sausages.
Each Volcano Dog is served on a hot-steamed bun.
“These superior tasting high-quality franks and sausages are made with 100 percent fresh kosher beef,” said the owners. “Hebrew National brand follows strict biblical dietary laws and use only certain standards for quality, cleanliness and safety.”
The owners said that the hot dogs do not contain artificial preservatives, flavors, colors, and by-products are simply not allowed.
“Just Da Ono Beef Dog cooked just right,” said Mike Fugett. “Our goal is to provide a real good quality hot dog at a good price that’s tasty. We always try to keep our prices down.”
In addition to the hot dogs, the owners offer ice-cold soda, water, and chips. Volcano Dogs is getting rave reviews from customers.
“This is the best hot dog I have ever had,” said Payton Hough, of Princeville.
In addition to Hough, the owners believe that they have been well received on Kaua’i.
“It’s been great,” said Mike Fugett. “I really didn’t know what to expect but it is has been encouraging.”
