E. Layne Rustan
Artist E. Layne Rustan was a resident of Kaua’i for the last 15 years. She died Sept. 5, 2003 at the age of 76.
She was born in the United States in 1926, and studied for her master’s degree in fine arts at Wayne State University and the Detroit Art Museum from 1944 to 1949, and the California State Arboretum in 1955. She also studied under many famous artists of California.
A professional artist listed in Dictionare Benezit, Grund Librarie, Paris France, she is also registered in the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C. Her paintings left behind are impressionistic, celebrating the sea and the land, and skillfully handled with painting knife and brush in oils. Most of her art is permanently recorded in the Archives of the National Museum Gallery Registration Association in Washington D.C. She has had many grand openings and personal art shows in California, and in 1987 she was given “The Most Coveted Award of Peer Award” from a statewide entrant show at the University of California at Santa Barbara.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd “Jack” Rustan, who is now living in Tonasket, Wash., with their daughter, Joy Holberg. Her son, John Rustan, lives in Santa Maria, Calif. Nieves Lagazo
Nieves Lagazo of Lihu’e died Jan. 22, 2004, at Wilcox Hospital at the age of 60.
Born Nov. 15, 1949, in the Philippines, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters: Camila Lagazo of Hanama’ulu and Shirley Lagazo of the Philippines; four sons: Ernest Guillermo Lagazo of the Philippines; Henry Lagazo of Hanama’ulu; Francisco Lagazo of the Philippines; and Rizal Lagazo of the Philippines; two brothers: Mauro (Tacing) Daliva of Maui; and Victor Daliva of the Philippines; two sisters: Maria Daliva and Felissa Daliva, both of the Philippines; 10 grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Viewing will be held Thursday, Feb. 5, from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., at St. Michael & All Angels’ Episcopal Church in Lihu’e. Services are at 10 a.m., followed by burial in Lihu’e Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Linda Mitsue Tanaka
Linda Mitsue Tanaka of Makaweli died Jan. 27, 2004, at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home at the age of 74.
A cook helper for Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital, she was born Oct.. 8, 1929, in Koloa.
She is survived by two sons: Ray Tanaka of Waimea and Michael Tanaka of Makaweli; two brothers: Keizo Nakamasu of California and James Nakamasu of O’ahu; two brothers-in-law: Bucky Tanaka of Waimea and Wataru Tanaka of Makaweli.
Viewing will be held Monday, Feb. 2, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., with service at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Kauai Veterans Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
The family requests that flowers be omitted. Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Haruye “Harue” T. Wong
Haruye “Harue” T. Wong of Kapa’a, died Jan. 28, 2004, at Wilcox Hospital at the age of 86.
A homemaker, she was born March 4, 1917, in Hawai’i.
She is survived by her husband: Richard Foon Yip Wong; two daughters: Karen (Ronald) Ogata and Marsha (Warren Mizutani) Wong; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Friday, Jan. 30, at 3 p.m. at All Saints Church in Kapa’a.The family suggests aloha attire, and requests that flowers be omitted. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
