LIHU’E — The holidays may be history, but New Year’s resolutions are not. For many Kauai’ians, the promise to get organized tops the list. The good news is that there are plenty of solutions for both men and women.
Women of all skill levels can learn how to organize closets and add style to floors during Home Depot’s free national “Do-It-Herself” workshops.
“These workshops make them feel comfortable and get them in here,” said Katherine Gallagher, Home Depot Western Division Public Relations officer.
“Fifty percent of the customers that come into our stores are women so we try and find ways to tailor programs to fit their needs.”
The workshops will take place at the Lihu’e Home Depot store on Jan. 26.
The workshops will be separated into two categories; How “you can organize your closets” from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and how “you can install easy flooring solutions” from 7:45-8:45 p.m.
“I think these are a great thing for women,” said Lihu’e Home Depot Assistant Store Manager Mark Antony.
“The classes are taught by women and the focus is on how these things (home improvements) aren’t hard and can be fun.”
According to an opinion poll conducted for Home Depot by Roper ASW, three-quarters of American women ages 25 to 49 say that they are doing more home improvement projects today than five years ago. Seventy-three percent of respondents say they do so because they are “fun.” Home Depot associates will offer “hands-on demonstrations and step-by-step instructions for completing projects.” Associates will also make sure participants have the proper tools and materials right from the beginning.
Home Depot’s first national “Do-it-Herself” workshops were held in May of 2003.
Since then, more than 140,000 women across the nation have participated in the popular womenonly clinics.
The Home Depot was founded in 1978 in Atlanta, Georgia and has since become the world’s largest home improvement retailer, operating more than 1,500 stores (Home Depot, EXPO, and other subsidiary companies) across North America.
The Lihu’e Home Depot store opened back in October.
The stores stock up to 35,000 different kinds of building materials and lawn and garden products.
The Home Depot currently operates in 50 states and in the District of Columbia, eight Canadian provinces, and Mexico.
In 1998, Home Depot opened stores in Puerto Rico and recently opened two sourcing offices in China.
