The Hui o Na Makauhine Ho’okahi O Kaua’i organization held its third annual Christmas party at Kapa’a Elementary School Cafeteria in December.
Mayor Bryan Baptiste and his family attended the event.
The organization assists single mothers on Kaua’i who are struggling in various areas of their life.
About 70 partygoers enjoyed a prime rib and ham dinner.
The Hui wanted the children to experience good food, other than spam and rice, and other local foods they eat during the year, and hear the story of Christmas and have a night of fun and games, said Marilyn Mohler, who heads up the organization.
Capt. Mitham Clement of the Salvation Army in Lihu’e provided gifts for 50 children at the event through the Salvation Army’s Toys for Tots program.
Also helping out were Pastors Bob and Stella Quintanar of New Beginning Christian Church Center in Hanama’ulu, Bill and Jane Gray of Lihu’e, plus Davone and Kim Florence also of the New Beginning Christian Center.
The organization’s staff facilitating the party included Kim McKeague, Activities Director; Carolyn Moore, treasurer; Angela Watson, secretary; Kealoha Enrique, advisory board; and Alice Costales, chaplain.
