WAIMEA — Ericsen James Jose Bartolome made his entrance into the world at 5:29 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, nearly as the sun was setting out in Waimea, becoming the first baby to be born on Kaua’i in 2004.
The first child of Jantry Jose of Hanapepe, Ericsen tipped the scales at 6 pounds, 9.1 ounces, with a length of 20 and 1/4 inches.
Jose said she went to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at West Kauai Medical Clinic here at about 5 in the morning on Jan. 1, and following 12 and 1/2 hours of labor, welcomed her son into the world.
Her boyfriend and her family spent the day at the hospital with her, and when Ericsen arrived, another New Year’s celebration began.
Villamor and Nicolasa Jose, the baby’s grandparents, beamed with pride as they were on hand to help Jantry welcome their third grandchild into the world.
For the KVMH/WKMC labor, delivery and obstetrics staff, Ericsen’s arrival signaled the start of a mini baby boom, as they welcomed two more babies yesterday morning, Friday, Jan. 2.
The first was a baby boy, making his arrival at 9:54 a.m., followed quickly by another baby boy, born at 11:30 a.m.
Another baby boy closed out 2003 for the KVMH/WKMC staff, born on Tuesday, Dec. 30 at 7:17 a.m.
KVMH/WKMC staffers also took pride in delivering their Christmas baby, a girl who tipped the scales at nine pounds, 3.5 ounces, making her arrival at 1:55 Christmas morning.
As of press time Friday, there had not been a first New Year’s baby born at Wilcox Memorial Hospital in Lihu’e in 2004.
