Waimea roared to a 20-10 first quarter Thursday at the Iolani Classic, but succumbed to Punahou in the following three quarters for a 60-48 loss at the hands of the Buffnblu.
Waimea’s Jordon Dizon and Jeremy Manuel each had a pair from three-pointland as they led the Menehune effort, Dizon finishing with 17 points and Manuel firing 14 points.
Lanikai Kanahele’s inside play yielded 10 points with Kamu Kawaihalau adding four, and Casey Kaohelauli’i rounding out Waimea’s scoring with three markers.
Punahou was led by Reid Fowler who scored a game-high 21 points, Scott Otake helping with a dozen points.
Over on the Big Island, the Kaua’i High School Red Raiders dropped to Temecula of California, 71-66 Thursday with Futi Tavana leading the Red Raider charge on 24 points, and Alec Reichle adding 18 markers.
Kaua’i High School is playing at the Big Island Candies/Hilo High Holiday Prep Classic that is taking place at the Afood-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo.
Finally, from Maui, the Kapa’a Warriors were victimized by Half Moon Bay of California, 72-35 at the Maui Christmas Classic, played Wednesday at Lahaina Civic Center.
Ryan Cram notched seven field goals enroute to his game-total 16 points to lead Kapa’a with Greg Ragsac, 3-for-4 on the free throw line, adding nine points in the loss.
Marcus Layman, Amini Taufo’ou, and Kaylan Dolor each finished with a pair apiece, and Thomas Martins rounded out the Kapa’a scoring with a digit.
Half Moon Bay was led by Geoff Downing’s 18 points.
