Starting today, fans of the KIF softball will be treated to a new feature courtesy of the KIF official scorekeeper Manny Henriques.
Henriques has been sending recaps of the game, and after conferring with him prior to the start of the Wednesday night contest between Kaua’i and Waimea, Henriques said he will be sending it in for each game on a timely basis, within 24 hours.
Unfortunately, due to press deadlines on game day, these boxscores will not be included in the game coverage, but should appear on Sports page B2 the following day.
Henriques said these statistics are part of the KIF records, and for those who have been clamoring for stats, this is a step in the right direction.
Wednesday’s game was a thriller with Waimea capitalizing on untimely Kaua’i errors to take the contest 6-5 in nine innings (regulation play is seven innings).
Lynette Perreira pitched well for Waimea as did Sherri Gebauer for the Red Raiders. Those numbers will be part of the sports statistics package.
Anna Quibilan had the only triple in the game. That, too, will be part of the package as well as inning by inning scoring breakdowns, and other critical data.
For those who have Internet service, more stats from around the state are now being maintained by the Hawai’i High School Athletic Association (HHSAA) through their web site at www.SportsHigh.com. This was announced by the HHSAA’s Dennis Anderson recently.
Henriques, as the official scorekeeper for the KIF softball program, has been submitting these numbers as well as scorers for KIF soccer to this Web site, too.
