The Herbert Honjo family’s annual display of Christmas lights on Hardy Street in Lihu’e was lit up the first day after Thanksgiving on Friday evening.
The family and their neighbors have one of the most prominent Christmas tree light displays in the area.
The family begins working on the light display at around Halloween. Honjo said the addition of a grinch is thanks to a donation made by Nadine Horner who said she just wanted to do something nice for the community. Honjo said that combined with their neighbor, Norvin Olivas, the homes will be lit through New Year’s until about 10 or 11 p.m. – depending on when he wants to go to bed. On Christmas, the lights on Hardy Street are set to remain on for 24 hours.
