Public-service announcements (PSAs) done by current and former students of Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School will be aired on PBS Hawaii on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m.
That is channel 11 on Kaua‘i, and the program is new, “The Net — Student Video Network,” said Kevin Matsunaga, media production teacher at Chiefess Kamakahelei in Puhi.
“It’s a collection of outstanding video projects created by students throughout the state,” and Chiefess Kamakahelei is the only middle school represented, Matsunaga said. All the other works were done by high school students, he added.
Four student works were selected, but because of time limitations only three will be aired, said Matsunaga.
The three PSAs to be aired are:
- “Adopt-A-Pet” by seventh-graders Matthew Osorno and Matthew Sagum, and Pohaku Kapua, now a ninth-grader at The Kamehameha Schools on O‘ahu;
- “Read and the World Comes to You” by Marissa Agena, a ninth-grader at Kapa‘a High School;
- “Good Deeds” by Matthew Remitio, currently a ninth-grader at Kaua‘i High School.
These projects were all done last school year when all of the students were at Chiefess Kamakahelei.
Matsunaga, Osorno, Agena and Remitio (Sagum moved to the Mainland) flew to O‘ahu last week for a special pre-screening event at Moanalua High School.
