The highly anticipated opening of The Home Depot location at Kukui Grove Village West is set for tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 23.
But some members of the Lihu‘e community and surrounding neighborhoods got special invitations to visit the store today.
Contractors, do-it-yourselfers and others simply interested in seeing what the new, huge store has inside are expected to rush in beginning tomorrow.
For many, the opening of the store will mark the end of the need to travel to O‘ahu to secure hard-to-find home-improvement goods at affordable prices.
The new store has a new delivery flatbed truck, a tool rental section, and a huge outdoor garden department. It also has hundreds of new employees, many of them from Kaua‘i.
The presence of The Home Depot has also heightened interest in vacant commercial lots around the store, and fueled speculation that Costco will soon be a neighboring tenant. At other Home Depot locations, Costco is a common nearby tenant.
