KALAHEO — Reina Fujimoto notched two goals as the Lihu‘e B AYSO 16-19 seven-a-side girls took a 5-1 win over Kalaheo Sunday at Kalawai Park to advance in the playoffs of that division.
The Lihu‘e girls were witnessed by a contingent of Lihu‘e Blue girls who will face off with the “B” squad coached by Glenn Morita on Thursday starting at 4:30 p.m. at Kalawai Field as the playoffs continue.
Striking early, Lihu‘e got on the books in the 21st minute as Kelcie Morita found the goal from an unchallenged right side, Morita booting the goal from 15 yards out.
A Morita assist to Janee Correa saw Lihu‘e pocket their second goal just about two minutes later as Correa booted the goal from the middle.
Shauna Tachibana proved that even the backfield can score as her goal late in the first half came on a boot back of the midfield stripe for the third score in the 29th minute.
Kalaheo wanted desperately to score before the half, and got their opportunity as Windsor Flynn fired through traffic only to have the ball clang off the top bar as the half ended with Lihu‘e in control, 3-0.
Katie Anderson opened the second half for Kalaheo with a goal less than five minutes into play as Anderson scored on a Morita hesitation.
Fujimoto answered under heavy traffic, booting her first goal in the 41st minute from the leftside, and followed it three minutes later on a pass from Correa.
Lihu‘e goalie Ashton Pigao worked through numerous Kalaheo shot-on-goal attempts, and the defense kept Emma Makepa-Foley in check through most of the game.
Flynn ended the day with another goal bar clanger as she attempted another shot in the second half that repeated itself by clanging harmlessly off the bar.
The victory keeps Lihu‘e B’s record unblemished as they have taken all of their games in the regular season with just one tie, that coming from a previous encounter with the Lihu‘e Blue team who they will revisit on Thursday at Kalawai Park.
