Powwow draws hundreds to Kapa‘a Beach Park

Hundreds of visitors and residents ventured to Kapa‘a Beach Park to witness the spectacle that is the annual Kaua‘i Powwow this weekend.

Organized by the Kaua‘i Powwow Council, the event was held Saturday and Sunday, and included live music and dancing, including an inter-tribal dance Saturday that brought many different, colorful costumes into the center dance circle.

A grand entry was a highlight of yesterday’s festivities.

Hummingbird Sing, a drum and attending musicians from Arizona, was one of several drums providing music for the inter-tribal dances and other ceremonial proceedings.

Other cultural offerings included a variety of American Indian crafts and jewelry, as well as authentic traditional American Indian foods, all offered by vendors.
