Firefighters practice at Lihu‘e Airport

State of Hawai‘i Lihu‘e Airport crash-fire crews used foam to douse a blaze on Monday morning during a certification drill at the practice fuselage located adjacent to a runway at the airport.

Airport crash fire crews need to work with a “live burn” once every 12 months to remain certified, and the Monday blaze burned approximately 2,000 gallons of aviation fuel.

Two more burns are planned for later this week to accommodate all the shifts at the Lihu‘e Airport station.
