LIHU‘E — Members of the Lihu‘e Hongwanji Mission’s women’s club were up early Sunday morning to prepare breakfast that traditionally heralds the resumption of Sunday School at the Kapaia church.
This year’s event coincided with Grandparents Day, and many of the community’s kupuna took advantage of the hospitality to fellowship with church members while enjoying a meal of fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage, rice, and drinks.
Ted Inouye and Ricky Tokunaga of the church’s Senior Young Buddhist Association (YBA) were also on hand with offerings of takenoko (bamboo shoots) which were eagerly snatched up by aficionados of the specially prepared, bottled delicacy.
Younger breakfast patrons took advantage of the occasion to discuss various community events, as well as recap their weekend’s sporting activities before adjourning to the morning service.
