LIHU‘E — A roofing worker died Friday morning after falling from a two-story-high roof at the Kukui Grove Executive and Health complex.
The roofer, a 47-year-old man, was working for Lihu‘e-based Construction Hawaii.com.
The man fell from the section of the building that houses medical offices adjoining the Kauai Athletic Club.
Paramedics received the call at about 8:54 a.m., and the patient was transported a few minutes later to the emergency room at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter, according to police.
It is uncertain if he was, or was not, attached to safety rigging when he fell.
His identity is being withheld by the Kaua‘i Police Department until his next of kin is notified.
Chaney Brooks & Company manages the building in the complex, located at 4366 Kukui Grove St.
Robin Gibson, Chaney Brooks property manager, acknowledged that the worker fell while doing repairs and cleaning up metal roofing and other metal pieces. The work, ongoing for about two weeks, was stopped Friday morning but is to resume Monday, Gibson said. There was one other worker at the site when the fall occurred.
