PUHI — Ten members ranging in age of 5-12 of the Kaua‘i Gymnastics program based in the Puhi Industrial Park will be winging to a special exhibition at the GYMFEST which will be held at the Universal Studios in California on August 16.
This will be the second year the group will be performing in the program that gives the team members eligibility to continue on to Regional, National, and even World competition said Lisa Fairchild of Kaua‘i Gymnastics.
Fairchild said last year’s group consisted of only four performers, but based on their experience, this year’s travelling group has swelled to ten performers.
Fairchild stressed that this is not a competition which allows the girls more flexibility in designing and choreographing their routine which will be one of many that will come from groups converging at Universal Studios from all around the country.
The fact that the event is non-competitive frees the performers from constraints of time or age limits and allows the girls more room for creativity in their routines.
Fairchild noted that some of the groups even incorporate parent supporters in their presentations.
Fairchild said the tour would not have been possible without the help of many community agencies and businesses, and especially the parents of the travelling girls, Joy Pigao, one of the moms creating the special pants the girls will be wearing.
The Kaua‘i county, the Kaua‘i Kookie Company, Craig Kawakami Construction, Toolmaster, and the Rapozo ohana are just some of the many who helped the girls realize this trip.
Members of the travelling team include Kiana Pigao, Amanda Rita, Yasmine Ware, Kylie Uehara, Kaisa Ishikawa, Kyren Ishikawa, Elshae Tanimoto, Machaela Rapozo, and Dawn Vess.
