Billions available in federal grants
A U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development spokesperson said some $2.3 billion in HUD grants are available for projects on the Neighbor Islands. Marketing seminar is three-part series
Sharpen Your Marketing Skills is the title of a three-part marketing series, presented by Debra Jason, owner of The Write Direction. The first session is this Thursday, June 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Aloha Beach Resort in Wailua. The second is Thursday, July 24, and the final session is Thursday, Aug. 24, both at the same time and place as the first session. Marketing using the World Wide Web is a focus of all three sessions, which all include continental breakfast. The cost is $35 per session for Kauai Chamber of Commerce members, $40 for guests, or $99 for Chamber members for all three sessions, $105 for guests. Luke leads bankers’ group
Warren K.K. Luke, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Hawaii National Bank, has been elected 2003-04 president of the Hawaii Bankers Association, an association spokesman announced recently. Constance H. Lau, president and chief executive officer of American Savings Bank, is vice president.
Donald G. Horner, president and chief operating officer of First Hawaiian Bank, is secretary-treasurer, and Rodney R. Shinkawa, the association’s executive director, was elected executive vice president. The terms were effective Sunday, June 1. The association represents the interests of the financial-institution industry, including banks and savings associations, doing business in Hawaii.
HVCB wins award at Korea show
Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau representatives walked off with two top honors for excellence, in booth design and cultural demonstrations, at the 16th Korea World Travel Fair, held earlier this month in Seoul, South Korea. The members won for best booth design and best folklore performance. Some 84,000 people attended the fair, and the HVCB entries won over 320 other exhibitors from 43 countries.
Island cuisine on display in Chicago
Kauai shrimp take center stage in the Windy City, as Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau representatives participate in the 23rd Annual Taste of Chicago, from this Thursday, July 3, through Saturday, July 5. The Kekaha-grown shrimp is the main ingredient in a summer roll creation to be prepared there by chefs from the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel as part of the Taste of the States pavilion, a new feature of the culinary celebration.
