NAWILIWILI — With personal assistant Manuel Taniguchi in tow, ARC of Kauai (Association of Retarded Citizens) associate Harry Young routinely goes to Sun Village elderly apartments behind Wilcox Memorial Hospital, and collects and sorts recyclable items. For his efforts, Young recently received a check for over $100 from Garden Isle Disposal representatives. Young and Taniguchi work together to collect glass, plastics and aluminum, bring the items to the Garden Isle Disposal warehouse along Niumalu Road here, and log the weights, said Steve Kaui, Garden Isle Disposal sales manager.
After months of collecting recyclable commodities, Young, who has disabilities, gets money for his efforts. Recently, Garden Isle Disposal representatives issued a check to ARC of Kauai, after the value of the recyclables reached the point where issuance of a check was warranted, Kaui explained.
