Sonics rally past East girls
KALAHEO – A bomb from 3-pointland from Wailua’s Emma Donigan pushed the girls from the East to a 3-2 first quarter showing over the Kaumakani Supersonics.
However, the girls in blue woke up to take the contest 25-18 despite a slowdown caused by lighting problems at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center on Tuesday night in girls 12 and under community basketball action.
Mai’lika Napoleon launched another Wailua trey in the second period, but the effort fell short as Kaumakani’s Chaelyn Briones notched seven points to lead the Supersonic offense.
Napoleon, combining with Chelsie Villatora for two field goals each in the final stanza, ended the night tying Briones for high point honors with seven points in the Wailua loss.
Kaumakani Supersonics 2-8-10-5
Boys 12 and Under Results:
Hino Kanahele exploded in the third frame, and combining with the firepower of Aaron Vea and Rilen Bayot, outgunned Wailua 13-8.
However, the effort fell short as Wailua claimed a 35-29 win behind a 10-point showing from Kekoa Prem.
Kanahele continued his offensive explosion in the fourth quarter, garnering all of his 8-point high scorer honors in the second half.
Balanced Waimea scoring had Rilen Bayot adding seven points, including a trey in the third quarter, and Jason Yanos adding a field goal in the Waimea third period enroute to his game-total 6-point showing.
