Roxanne “Roxi” Rayno Makena of Lihu’e, died on May 6, 2003, at the age of 40.
Born in Hawai’i on May 12, 1963, she was a partner in Makena Miyake Inc., a tax preparation and bookkeeping services and an accounts payable clerk at YWCA.
She is survived by her daughter, Kashmir; father, Peter Rayno of Lihu’e; mother, Carol Rayno of Lihu’e; sister, Joy (Robin) Medeiros of Kapa’a; grandmother, Minnie Vea of Lihu’e; grandmother, Adele Ochoco of Hanama’ulu; nieces, Ryndie Dettloff and Ronessa Medeiros of Kapa’a; nephews, Pekelo and Kilika Dettloff and Kolton and Chanler Medeiros of Kapa’a; faithful friend, Rusty Cleveland of Lihu’e; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, May 12, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Borthwick Kauai Mortuary. Catholic service at 6 p.m., Protestant service at 6:45 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and that flowers be omitted.

Nicolas Acain
Nicolas Acain of Hanama’ulu, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 8, 2003, at the age of 92.
Born in the Philippines, on Sept. 10, 1910, he was a truck driver for Lihu’e Plantation and also worked at Smith’s Tropical Paradise.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen Acain of Hanama’ulu; three sons: Rudy Acain of Wahiawa, Nicolas Acain Jr., of Kapa’a, Michael Acain of California; four daughters, Ilona (Dwight) Robinson of North Carolina, Elena (Kenneth) Gongob of Wahiawa, Josephine Acain-Sanchez of Puhi and Marilyn (Gavin) Peralta of Puhi. One brother and four sisters of the Philippines, 14 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, May 15, at Immaculate Conception Church from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. where mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Father Paul. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens. Casual attire is suggested.

Shirley Kakutani of Lawa’i died at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home on May 7, 2003, at the age of 62.
Born in Moore Head, Minn. on Aug. 27, 1940, she was a claim representative with the Social Security Office in Lihu’e.
She is survived by husband, Harry; two sons, Neil Kakutani of Maui and Andy Kakutani of O’ahu; six brothers, Maurice (May) Olsgaard, Otto (LaVonne) Olsgaard, Harold (Anne) Olsgaard, Ted (Norma) Olsgaard, Richard (Rose) Olsgaard and Charles (Mary) Olsgaard; three sisters, Grace Onan, Ida Maria Flaaten and Hazel (Jerry) Iwen; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 12, at the Koloa Union Church; service officiated by Pastors Ruth & David Sandberg will begin at 3 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.
