A hefty Clydesdale horse that trapped itself in a gully south of Kilauea town, was rescued Sunday afternoon by Inter-Island Helicopters pilot Ken D’Attilio.
D’Attilio used the Westside-based helicopter company’s Vietnam-era Huey UH1H aircraft to lift the valuable horse out of its predicament.
A sling was attached to the horse and the horse was placed in a vertical position as the pilot gently lifted the animal out of danger.
The rescue came on Sunday afternoon about 1:45 p.m. at a location on the makai side of Kuhio Highway.
The horse was safely lowered into a corral and stood right up, according to a spokesperson for Inter-Island Helicopters.
