Racers overcome obstacles at annual event

Amidst the Kauai Coffee fields at Camp 1 Bay, 233 participants leisurely blazed through a 50 mile winding course along the southwestern coast and valleys of Kalaheo on Sunday.

Escorted by their moms, dads, uncles or aunts, 61 keikis braved the elements that Mother Nature bestowed upon the island days before.

The Annual Easter event sponsored by Kauai’s Off-Road Riders carried many surprises that were well thought out.

Division A/B riders were challenged to carry a raw egg through the whole ride for a chance to win a helmet.

Surprisingly, over half of the riders brought their egg back whole, signed, sealed and delivered. Some tenderly wrapped in undergarments, diapers and water bottles.

In addition to the raw egg challenge, all riders had to search for 10 special eggs that held an extra grand prize drawing ticket and five that offered the Keikis an Easter Basket filled with goodies.

While awaiting the results for the grand prize drawing, riders listened to the soothing sounds of Mitchell Kali and friends.

Congratulations to the raw egg winner Paul Rathbone and the Grand Prize winner, Roberta Jones who is setting her two wheels aside to take another wild ride to Las Vegas or Anaheim courtesy of Two Wheels.
