While continuing to be the commander in chief for forces engaged in fighting the war on drugs on Kaua’i, Mayor Bryan Baptiste recently turned his attention to the war in Iraq, and potential economic and personal consequences on this island.
“With any kind of world conflict, we are sure to see negative effects on our economy,” he said.
“The extent of those effects are not yet known. The county government will have to communicate with our partners in the economic-development sector of the community, and react accordingly as events unfold,” said Baptiste.
“This war has not only an economical impact on Kaua’i, but also an emotional impact on our families. Some families may have loved ones overseas and in battle,” he noted.
“The war may hit closer to home for some than others, but it is essential we support each other in this difficult time. When we can come together with the true spirit of community, it is then we can overcome our challenges,” Baptiste concluded.
