Derrick, Cynthia Sone return to Kukui Grove

They are familiar faces in a familiar location.

After being away from the mall for a few years, Derrick and Cynthia Sone not only have returned to Kukui Grove Center, but have landed at the same location where they made names for themselves with their cooking and friendly customer service.

Opened earlier this month was Sone’s Deli & Catering, owned and operated by the Sones, familiar to the lunching public as former long-time employees of Joni-Hana Local Grinds, when it was at the mall.

They moved into the former Joni-Hana location near center stage, because they always wanted to return to take care of a large local clientele built up over their years at Joni-Hana and, later, at the now-defunct Puhi Fish and Catering, Cynthia Sone said.

Bento box lunches start at $3.95, and daily there are 15 different dishes to choose from, including fresh fish and other daily specials.

A grand opening is set for Saturday, April 19, but Sone’s is open for business now, from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Saturday, 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The Sones already have lots of catering jobs lined up, and eight employees including the couple, Cynthia Sone said.
