However, the St. Andrews girls basketball team hit its free throws late and eventually pulled away for a 43-34 win on Friday night at the Menehune Wahine girls basketball tournament at Waimea High School.
Danielle Hill helped the Warriors stay within striking distance of the Priory with 10 points in the second half of play.
Tania Tasic and Tescily Maguire combined for 10 points for Kapa’a.
The Warriors trailed 20-14 at halftime and then 30-26 after three quarters of action before tying the score at 30 early in the fourth period.
Laurie Miyasato and Cassi Nakasone combined for 23 points for St. Andrews which defeated Waimea 44-26 late on Thursday night.
In other tourney action on Friday, the Menehune bested Kaua’i 34-18.
The Red Raiders stayed close, trailing 13-11 at halftime.
However, in the next 16 minutes of play, Waimea outscored Kaua’i 21-7.
Waimea was led by Janna Soto’s eight points while Virginia Aguilar added six points.
For the Red Raiders, Delsa Tavana totaled four points while Janee Correia and Kelly Dennis each tallied three points.
