HANAPEPE – The Kaua’i Interscholastic Federation championship is well within reach for the Kaua’i Red Raider girls who posted their fourth straight win Saturday night at Hanapepe Stadium.
Janee Correia’s hat trick in the first 20 minutes of play led the Raiders to a 5-0 shutout over the Waimea Menehune, and one step closer to the 2003 league title.
After Correia’s three bullets gave Kaua’i a 3-0 lead at the half, there wasn’t much the Menehune could do. Of course, the Raiders kept the momentum going through the second period.
Jessica French scored her first goal of the varsity season in the first minutes of the second half, and then Holly Iloreta followed up with her first goal late in the game to seal the 5-0 win.
Kaua’i’s defense, including Shauna Tachibana, Amber Thronas and Chelsea Pabo, continue to keep the KIF striving for a point. The Raiders outscored the KIF 10 – 1 this season.
So far, Waimea’s Laurese Rosare has scored the only goal against the Red Raiders this season.
