Wayne Breaux of Kapa’a recently sawed and hammered with Habitat for Humanity in Hanapepe, as part of a special program to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Terminix International, a pest-control company.
Breaux was selected to represent Terminix by George Ofsonka, Terminix Kaua’i branch manager. The company’s Kaua’i office is in the second phase of the Lihue Industrial Park.
As part of its anniversary celebration, Terminix partnered with Habitat for Humanity to help build homes across the country for people who needed affordable housing.
Associates at all 310 participating Terminix branches chose one individual to represent their branch from more than 11,000 Terminix associates nationally.
Terminix chose Habitat for Humanity for its humanitarian efforts in providing basic housing to people in need. Terminix helped construct homes in 17 cities and Hanapepe late last year, and also donated termite pre-treatment protection for chapters that requested the service.
“We are very proud to be working with Habitat for Humanity,” said Albert Cantu, president and chief operating officer of Terminix, based in Memphis, Tenn.
“Our company is about helping people protect their homes. It seemed natural that on this special anniversary, we help build homes that help fulfill people’s dreams for a better place to live,” Cantu said.
“Communities across America have been very good to Terminix and our associates, and we wanted to say ‘thank you’ in a very meaningful way,” he said.
“The people of Terminix are its strength. We’re taking that strength and putting it to work in the community for people in need,” Cantu added.
Habitat for Humanity finds families who need shelter, then helps them build their own homes by assembling a team of volunteers and experts to guide and assist with the construction.
Once the house is built, the homeowner buys it at cost, interest-free. Since 1976, Habitat has built more than 100,000 houses in 80 countries.
Terminix worked with Habitat in Austin, Texas; San Diego and Concord, Calif.; Phoenix; Columbus, Ohio; Hartford, Conn.; Philadelphia; Rochester, N.Y.; Evansville, Ind.; Baltimore; Kansas City, Kan.; Memphis and Chattanooga, Tenn.; Jacksonville, Fla.; and Shreveport, La.
Since 1927, Terminix has been the leader in developing innovative strategies to protect homes and businesses from pests.
With a network of service centers nationwide using the latest techniques and technologies, Terminix is recognized as the leader in termite and pest control.
Terminix is part of ServiceMaster, which serves more than 10.5 million customers in the United States and 41 other countries.
