Capt. Donald H. Wilson, USNR, will be relieved as Commanding Officer of the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) this morning by Navy Capt. Robert J. Connelly during a traditional change of command ceremony at the Barking Sands base.
A keynote address is scheduled to be given by Rear Adm. Robert T. Conway, Jr., Commander of the Navy Region, Hawai’i and Commander, Naval Surface Group, Middle Pacific.
During Wilson’s tour of duty at Barking Sands he was instrumental in restoring public access to PMRF’s beaches after they were closed due to increased security requirements resulting from the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Connelly is a New Jersey native and arrives at PMRF following a tour as Commander, Amphibious Squadron Three, where he had deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The Navy captain is a 1976 graduate of the United States Naval Academy and was designated a Naval Aviator in 1977.
He has been stationed in Hawai’i before, at the former Barbers Pt. Naval Air Station, and as Maritime Aviation Ops Officer on the Pacific Fleet staff.
